Executive Chef, Stars
Being born in rural, Orangeburg, South Carolina, and growing up in a close knit family environment, food was always the center of any gathering. There was always a sense of living off the land, whether it be eating venison, dove, quail and freshwater fish, or the fresh harvest vegetables from the family garden. He comes from a family of hard working and loving people that taught him how to love food and saw the joy of sharing. Tylor has always had an appreciation for food and the hard work it takes to prepare and knew from a young age that this was the industry for him.
Working for Buck Ridge Plantation, a catering company, gave him the opportunity to start preparing food, serving, party set up, and seeing how the industry really works. Years later he came to Charleston to study Culinary Arts at the Art Institute. His first restaurant stint was to work at Fuel, where he got his first taste of the line serving the entertainment crowds for the Food Network and Dinners Drive-ins and Dives. At the age of 21 Tyler was promoted to sous chef at Fuel and shortly after he was given the opportunity to come to Stars.
At Stars Grill Room, Tyler plans on taking everything that he learned from growing up in the South, Culinary School, and past Chefs to keep Stars moving in a positive direction of innovation and appreciation of local ingredients. Holding true to the fundamentals of what he always loved about food, with either dishes that are going to take them back home with "some good ole country cookin" or creating something that someone has never had before, he wants to make people happy through a good meal.
