Orlando Barrera, Executive Chef
Chef and Culinary Director Orlando Barrera has true Caribbean roots from his birth in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico and has lived and traveled all over the West Coast, Southwest and Southeast soaking up experience and honing his skills.
He came to Miami at age 16 and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Fl. Since the age of 16 Orlando has always loved cooking, but it was during his travels that his passion for food was truly ignited and he decided to begin his journey toward becoming a chef. First kitchen was an Italian Taverna where he learned the concept of “authentic cooking”. True Italian cuisine made from scratch and prepared like they do in Italy-using fresh ingredients. Orlando was one of the original chefs that opened Sound End Brewery in 1994 and has worked as a restaurant consultant for several regions across the country. He has also worked as a private chef for several NFL teams and knows fine dining from working 15 years as a consultant for Country Clubs in the Southeast including Kiawah
Chef Barerra’s signature style is American Fusion which incorporates his love of BBQ and smoked southern dishes by fusing Caribbean influences. Although Southend’s menu was recently updated, Chef Barrera is excited to offer new daily menu items including a specialty pizza, burger and salad. When he is not cooking authentic southern dishes, he enjoys cooking seafood especially grouper and fishing with his son in Mt Pleasant.
