Derek Falta joined the Bull Street team during the summer of 2011 and brings a commitment to quality and an organized, efficient style to managing the kitchen as chef of Bull Street Gourmet & Market. Working alongside owner and chef Justin Croxall, Falta helped to create a variety of new gourmet menu items for eatery’s second downtown location, which opened in August 2011 on lower King Street.
Growing up, he learned to appreciate mealtime as a time to come together with family and friends, and he continues to combine tastes and aromas to create the focal points of guests’ memories. The New Jersey native earned a bachelor of science from North Carolina State before realizing his culinary dream and attending Johnson & Wales University in Charleston. Most recently serving as executive chef at Barsa Tapas, Lounge & Bar, his Charleston experience includes tenure at Chai’s Lounge & Tapas and 39 Rue de Jean. Encouraging teamwork and contribution from all staff members, Falta incorporates local produce and Lowcountry flavors as he continues to refine dishes and teach others. When not at the helm of Bull Street Gourmet & Market, he enjoys fishing, camping, biking and going to the beach with his family.
